If a passing occurs at a nursing home, the registered nurse (RN) or on-site medical staff should be notified first. They will confirm the passing and complete the required Life Extinct documentation.
Once this has been done, your family can contact your chosen funeral director to begin arrangements, including bringing you into care and planning the service.
If the passing occurs at home, a doctor or appropriate medical professional will need to attend to confirm the passing and complete the necessary documentation. After this has been issued, your family can then contact the funeral director.
If the passing occurs in hospital, hospital staff will manage immediate care. If the hospital has a mortuary, you will be transferred there and cared for until arrangements are made. If a mortuary is not available, the hospital will contact the funeral director directly to arrange an immediate transfer into care. Once the required medical paperwork is completed, your family will then liaise with the funeral director to proceed with arrangements.
